MQS

May 19, 2010

Just returned from MQS (Machine Quilters Showcase), Overland Park KS. New inspiration, new threads, new tools! What a delight to be in classes with famous quilters like Gina Perkes, Sherry Roger-Harrison, Sally Terry, Kim Brunner, Judy Woodworth, & two from Germany–Birgit Schueller & Claudia Pfeil!

Much of the fun is browsing the vendor floor to see what’s new in fabrics, threads, notions, tools (stencils, templates, pantographs), patterns, & so much more. The buzz this time is Fil-tec thread & Magna-glide bobbins. I bought some to try.

A special treat is rooming with long-time friend Sandy. We were neighbors here in Alaska for more than twenty years (our sons were best friends from first grade on); now she lives in Texas & we meet at quilting conferences. We both have Gammills & similar interests, although her quilting tends to be more toward business & mine toward personal use.

The gold wholecloth wall hanging I made & contributed to the Audacious Auction (raising funds for education of quilters) brought $425 after very spirited bidding.
